For the price conscious driver, the supermini could be the right choice of car. They are great little runabouts which come at an affordable price and can be used as an alternative to the small family car. They are also economical cars to run. Below we review the top 5 superminis on the market right now.

1. Ford Fiesta Hatchback      Supermini car reviews

Pros - The fiesta is probably the most refined car in the supermini class. It's a great little drive and gives a comfortable ride while looking stylish both inside and out. There are a wide variety of engines to choose from and the discounts available on new models also mean that you wont pay through the nose for one.

Cons - Some of the plastics used on the interior may not be the highest quality and it also lacks a little on space and versatility inside. More safety kit as standard would also be advantageous.

 

2. Hyundai i20 Hatchback     Supermini Car Reviews

Pros - This little Hyundai is very cheap to buy and extremely cheap to run. It also benefits from loads of luxury kit as well as a great amount of safety equipment. The overall ride is good with safe handling and a comfortable drive. The Hyundai is well built and fairly quiet too. Space and versatility are also fine.

Cons - The fun factor loses out to other cars in this class when it comes to driving it. The interior is a little on the dull side and the driving position is a bit too high.

 

3. Fiat 500 Hatchback           Supermini car reviews

Pros - With its quirky exterior style and chic interior finish, the new Fiat 500 is one of the most desireable models in the supermini class. The engines are fairly lively and the light steering makes light work of city driving. Its cheaper than other models in its class and is also one of the safest.

Cons - The ride is not very refined and can become a bit jittery at times. The engines are not particularly quick and there is no aircon fitted to base level models. The cabin lacks a bit in space too.

 

4. Vauxhall Corsa Hatchback      Supermini car reviews

Pros - One of the quietest running superminis the Corsa's handling and stability is like a much bigger car. The pace is reasonable as is the pricing and the running costs are very affordable. The interior space and styling is very good making it suitable for a family car.

Cons - Not exactly punchy to drive and the oversized pillars make visibility poor. Standard safety kit could also be better

 

5. Suzuki Swift Hatchback      Supermini car reviews

Pros - The petrol models for the Swift are punchy and the diesels are refined. The overall ride and handling is tidy and the safety equipment is very good.  The passenger interior is spacious and comfortable. Build quality is solid and it comes with plenty of kit.

Cons - Can be a bit bumpy and noisy over uneven surfaces and there is a lack of boot space. No option for aircon in the 1.3 models.
