Derby Grammar School

Self professed as the best independent day school in Derbyshire, Derby Grammar School is an all boys’ school (with the exception of the sixth-form which is co-ed) based in Littleover in Derby and provides education for pupils from the ages of 3 through to 18.

The school consists of 4 stages of education for its pupils which are:

Derby Grammar Junior School – Catering for boys from 3 to 11 the junior school provides a broad education for it pupils focusing strongly on literacy and numeracy development while at the same time providing a diverse program of extra-curricular activities.

Derby Grammar Lower School – The Lower school is where boys take the initial part of their secondary education from years 7 to 9 which begins in year 7 with a wide variety of subjects to study. In years 8 and 9 pupils can begin to focus their education on areas that most interest them or where they excel through a limited ‘options’ system.

Derby Grammar Upper School – The upper school covers years 9 and 10 and is where the boys begin studying for their GCSE’s in earnest. The curriculum is made up of a number of core subjects with a further list of options to make up the 10 GCSE subjects in total.

Derby Grammar Sixth Form – Taking students from 16 to 18 years old the sixth form is where pupils study for their AS and A Levels.  In the lower sixth pupils take 4 AS levels as well as General Studies and continue into the upper sixth with just 3 of the subjects to A2.
