Derby High School

Derby High School in Derby (not to be confused with the one in the USA) is a public school based in Littleover and takes pupils from the age of 3 years right through to the end of their A Level education at 18. The school is made up of 3 main departments which are:

Derby High School Primary – The primary department caters for both boys and girl from the age of 3 to 11 and part-time places are also available in the pre-school unit which admits children from the beginning of the next term after their 3rd birthday.

Derby High School Senior – The Senior school is for girls’ only, taking female pupils from 11 through to the completion of their secondary education at 16. The senior school is a firm believer in the merits of single sex education and encourages its students to engage in activities traditionally associated with boys as well as girls.

Derby High School Sixth-Form – The sixth-form department at Derby High School is where girls from both the senior school and from other secondary schools gain their higher-education awards culminating in A level exams at the age of 18. The educational environment is centred around small teaching groups and all pupils are assigned a personal tutor for guidance and to monitor progress throughout the 2 year period.

  • The personal development of pupils is outstanding, supported by excellent pastoral care
  • Development plans are essentially short term and lack a longer perspective
  • Results in external examinations have improved steadily since the last inspection
