Derby Hospital, also known as Royal Derby Hospital and formerly known as Derby City General Hospital, is the main hospital for the city of Derby and has 2 main sites based in Derby city centre. These are the Royal Derby Hospital based on Uttoxeter road and the London Road community Hospital. The Royal Derby is a teaching hospital and, as one of the largest hospitals in the UK, is used as one of the principal teaching centres for the University of Nottingham medical school.

 

Facilities at Royal Derby Hospital

 

Cash Machines at Royal Derby Hospital – There are 3 cash machines at the Royal Derby Hospital. One at the main entrance, one at Costa Amigo in the Gynaecology and Maternity Unit and the third is at the Kings Treatment Centre.

 

Shops at Royal Derby Hospital – You can buy a selection of magazines, newspapers, sandwiches, cold drinks and snacks at Amigos Convenience shop. There is one located at the main entrance whose opening hours are Mon-Friday 24hrs and Sat until 6pm. Sun 7am-6pm.

There is another located at the Kings Treatment Centre whose opening hours are Mon-Fri 7am-5pm.

For sandwiches, cold drinks, snacks and sweets you can go to either of the League of Friends shops at Derby Hospital, the first is on level 1 close to entrance 24, the other is in the Gynaecology and Maternity Unit on level 1.

 

Restaurants and Cafes at Royal Derby Hospital – There are a number of restaurants and coffee shops in Derby Royal Hospital in which you can get snacks and hot and cold drinks. At the main entrance you have Costa Coffee, open 7 days a week 6am-9.30pm. At the Kings Treatment Centre you have Delimarche Café whose opening hours are7am-5pm Mon-Fri. There is a Costa Amigo coffee shop and convenience store at the Gynaecology and Maternity Unit open 7 days a week from 7am-8pm. In the Children’s Outpatients department you will find Oasis Tea Bar

For a full menu of breakfast, lunch and dinner you will need to go to the Derby Hospital Restaurant, also known as Just Eat Restaurant which provides hot and cold food and drinks all day and including a salad bar.

Derby Hospital Accident & Emergency (A&E) - The A&E department at Derby Hospital is based in the Emergency department on level 1 of the Royal Derby Hospital site. The telephone number for Derby A&E is 01332 783111

 

Derby Hospital Maternity & Gynaecology Unit - The maternity department of Derby Hospital is on level 3 of the Royal Derby Hospital site and can be found by using entrances 20 & 21 and following the signs. The maternity unit offers antenatal, postnatal, midwifery and obstetric care for patients and can also offer home births as well as hospital births.

 

Derby Hospital Children’s Ward – The Derbyshire Children’s hospital is now located on the Royal Derby Hospital grounds. There are various different departments within the Children’s Wards at Derby Royal Hospital including Neo-natal, Children’s Outpatients and the Puffin, Ladybird and Sunflower Wards which cater for all areas of children’s medical issues. These are all located on level 1 or 2 of the hospital and the best entrance to use to access them is entrance 18.

 

Derby Hospital Cancer Department – The Oncology or Cancer department is located on level 1 of Derby Royal Hospital and is a specialist outpatients department providing diagnosis, treatment and aftercare for cancer patients in Derby

 

Intensive Care Unit at Derby Hospital – The ICU is located on level 2 of the Royal Derby Hospital and has visiting times of 11am-8pm. The ICU phone number is 01332 788685/6.

 

Outpatients Department at Derby Hospital – There is no specific department for outpatients at Royal Derby Hospital so it will depend on the particular area of treatment you require as to the department that you will visit as an outpatient. All outpatients of Derby Hospital should receive an appointment letter which will detail the specific department you need to visit along with the relevant contact details.

Derby Hospital Radio is broadcast and run by Radio Link which is a UK registered Charity. Radio Link has been running Derby Hospital radio for over thirty years now and provides programs and music to the patients of Derby Hospital and even listens to the patients requests when it comes to the type of music played. The Hospital Radio station at Derby also keeps patients up to date with local news and sports features.

For patients who prefer something a little more cutting edge there are facilities to listen to other radio stations such as Ram FM or BBC Radio Derby
