When people talk of Derby market they are usually referring to the one held daily in Derby Market Hall, however what many people are unaware of is that Derby has many different markets across the city and on various different days of the month.

Derby Market Hall – Opened in 1866, Derby Market Hall is a Victorian Grade II listed building and home to one of the most popular markets in Derby. On a daily basis Derby Market Hall has a variety of different stalls selling anything from fresh food to confectionary and clothing and in more recent years has also seen the introduction of café bars and shops such as nail bars, newsagents and hairdressers.

Within Derby Market Hall you will find the following sections:

Derby Fruit Market – A wide selection of fresh fruit and vegetables are sold daily within the hall giving the supermarkets a run for their money on price and quality.

Derby Fish Market – At the fish market in Derby Market Hall you will find a great selection of local and national fresh fish from the traditional haddock or sea-bass to some harder to come by items such as Whitby crab. Stall holders can also provide recipes for how to cook your fish as well as filleting and gutting them for you while you wait.

Derby Eagle Centre Market – or just the Eagle Market as it is now known, was so called due to its location within the old Eagle Centre which has now been extended and taken over by Westfield. The Eagle Market is accessed from the Westfield Shopping Centre and is an undercover market with over 300 different stalls offering a wide selection of different goods for sale.

Shops and Stalls at the Eagle Market include butchers, soft furnishings retail, repairs and accessories for mobile phones, electrical goods, and fruit & vegetables to name a few.

Derby Cattle Market – Not to be confused with the car boot sale held on Sundays, Derby Cattle Market is a regular livestock markets held every week on a Thursday at the Chequers road site just off the pentagon roundabout.

The cattle market at Derby takes the format of an auction which is organised and run local auctioneers Bagshaws and Eaton & Hollis

As the name suggests, livestock is up for auction at Derby cattle market which includes cows, calves, bulls and sheep.

Every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month there is also an auction for horses and every 1st and 3rd Saturday you will find the furniture auction at the market.

Every Sunday you will also find The Cattle Market Car Boot Sale which opens at 7.30am through until 8.30pm

Allenton Market This is a traditional open air market held in Allenton in Derby. Allenton Market has around 90 stalls with a wide variety of different products providing a bit of something for everyone. The walkways of the market are covered so rain will not stop play for market goers.

 

Allenton Market is also the site for a weekly Flea market. For those people unaware of what a flea market is, it is basically a cross between a regular open-air market and a car boot sale. Stalls there are set up by both traders and members of the public selling both new and used goods and buyers can pick up almost anything from clothes to vehicles, sofas and consumables.

Derby Farmers Market – Every 3rd Thursday of the month, Derby Market Place is the venue for a Farmers market where fresh local produce is available. All produce must come from within 30 miles of the Market making it truly local.

The products on offer range from local breads, sweets, cheeses and meats and as they are all freshly produced, they taste great too.

Although one of Derby’s smaller markets, the Guildhall market has an array of different market stalls such as complimentary medicines and therapies, food stalls and newsagents to name a few. Its’ convenient location in the Market Place, right in the heart of Derby city centre means it is accessible to everyone.

Derby Christmas Market – Each Year in the run up to Christmas there is a fantastic Christmas Market in Derby with a vast array of different products to help get you in the festive spirit.

The Christmas Market has over 70 stalls offering specially selected food and gifts which can make ideal Christmas presents or a great accompaniment to the Christmas dinner table.

The market usually takes place over the 3rd weekend of November and last year the venue was the Roundhouse at Pride Park.
