Derby University

Derby University is the main university in the city of Derby and has 2 main campus sites. The main site is the Kedleston road campus, just off the A38 and the second is the Buxton Campus, also known as the Devonshire Campus, which is in Buxton Derbyshire.

Directions to Derby University Buxton Campus

If you are travelling from the M6:

Exit the M6 at Junction18 then get on to the A54 (towards Congleton), when you get to Congleton, go on to the A536 towards Macclesfield and after that the A537 towards Buxton.

Coming from Derby:

At Derby get on to the A52 in the direction of Ashbourne and get on to the

A515 and navigating towards Buxton.

Coming from Manchester:

Get on to the A6, using the signs for Stockport and Buxton.

Just under 25 miles from Manchester you will arrive at Buxton

Directions to Derby University Kedleston road Campus:

Directions to Derby University from the east (Nottingham, A52)

When you reach the bottom of the A52, carry straight ahead at the roundabout (pentagon) and follow the signs for Derby City Centre  heading north.

To get to Kedleston Road, take a left, sticking to the signposts for Matlock A6. When you are in the one-way system, stay on the left and continue to take the signs for Quarndon and Allestree. You will then find yourself at Kedleston Road and you will see the University under a mile on the right hand side, shortly after the crossing of the A38.

 

Directions to Derby University from the south and west

Coming from the M1 at Junction 24, get on to the A50 with signs for Stoke-on-Trent. Exit the A50 at J4 and head north on the A38 towards Derby. Take a left at the next roundabout (A38). From the west, get on to the A50 heading east and join the A38 as above.

For Kedleston Road, carry straight on at the following roundabout (A38). Get off at the first exit, with signs for University. Take a left turn at the top of the slip road and it’s on the right hand side.

 

Directions to Derby University from the north

From the M1/J28, get on to the A38 south, with signs for Derby. At the first large roundabout you come to, carry on along the A38 signed Ashbourne, Matlock,  Uttoxeter  the sign also says Outer Ring Road.

For Kedleston Road, go right round the following roundabout and go back north bound on the A38. Get off at the first exit, with signs for University. Take a left turn at the top of the slip road and it’s on the right hand side.

Courses at Derby University

 

There are a wide range of different courses available at Derby University including undergraduate courses and postgraduate courses. If you are currently in work but would like to study then there are also various options available to you such as part-time courses at Derby University as well as online courses that you can do from home.

 

Derby University offers a wide range of different courses to study. For the budding solicitors and barristers there are a number of different law degrees at Derby University including one of the few non-qualifying law degrees to be offered by UK universities. For those wishing to venture into the world of commerce there is a selection of different business courses available at Derby University and it even caters for those who are more suited to the humanities with History and Geography courses at Derby University. There also a number of less conventional courses available at the university to cater for those looking for a more vocational qualification, such as Outdoor Activities courses, Hairdressing and Salon Management as well as Event Management courses and even Popular music production courses.

Derby University Student Union

 

In recent years Derby University has had a considerable amount of financial investment into its facilities and faculties making it as attractive for potential students as many of its counterparts in the Midlands. The Derby University Student Union is based at the Kedleston road site and its main entertainment venue ‘The Academy’ was opened in 2006. Since then it has played host to a number of very well known bands and artists such as Girls Aloud, Pendulum, Scouting for Girls and the Sugababes to name a few. Tickets for events at Derby Students Union are available to anyone with a valid NUS card and can be bought online or at the union itself. One of the biggest events at UDSU is the forthcoming Mayfest, formerly known as the May Ball. The Derby University Mayfest is a 3 day festival style event to be held at Stanford Hall in Loughborough and will feature 40 live acts in 400 acres of land with up to 4000 students attending.

As with all student NUS cards, membership of the Derby University students union gives students access to a wide range of student discounts to many bars, pubs and clubs around Derby.

 

Derby University Accommodation

 

When looking for accommodation at Derby University the obvious place to consider is the University Halls of residence. There are six different locations of the Halls of residence for the Derby campus (Nunnery Court, Laverstoke Court, Princess Alice Court, St Christopher’s Court, Peak Court, Sir Peter Hilton Court and Lonsdale Hall) and one at the Buxton Campus (High Peak Halls). All halls of residence offer good value for money, are usually in a convenient location, and are a great way of meeting up with other students, particularly for the freshers.

Alternatively there are numerous student accommodation agencies in Derby that can offer a variety of different student houses and flats to rent or share. This option tends to be more popular with students in their second year or higher who have already formed a group of close friends that wish to share accommodation.
