Derby Cathedral

Derby Cathedral

Derby Cathedral dates back from the 14th century, the tower having been built between 1510 and 1530 in the perpendicular gothic style of that era. The original church was actually founded in 943 by King Edmund I but today nothing remains of that original building.

Even though Derby was still a town at the time, the building, previously known as All Saints Church became known as a cathedral in 1927. Today it is very much a ‘working Cathedral’, but there are nevertheless long periods of calm and quiet and visitors are always welcome to walk round, to sit and enjoy its peace, to join in worship, to light a candle or pray.
