BBC Radio Derby is the BBC’s local radio station for the Derby and Derbyshire area. Radio Derby broadcasts from its studios in Derby and can be found on you FM radio on frequencies 95.3 for North and Mid-Derbyshire and 104.5 for Derby as well as 96.0 FM in the Buxton area. In addition to listening on your radio, you can listen to radio Derby live on the internet by going to their homepage and clicking on ‘listen live’. On the radio Derby website you also have the ability to listen again to any of the shows from the past 7 days.

Radio Derby Presenters

 

Radio Derby has numerous presenters fronting the different radio shows throughout the day starting with Phil Trow’s Breakfast show right through to Amanda Bowman who presents the end of day show through until 1am. Below is a list of the Radio Derby presenters along with a bit of information about the show that they present:

 

Phil Trow – Phil presents the Radio Derby Breakfast show from 7am - 10am which is probably the station’s most popular show as it has a captive audience of people commuting to work or doing the school run in Derby. The Breakfast show is a mixture of news, travel, weather and sport interspersed with music, and between 9am and 10am the show has a phone-in for local people to air their views on the topic of the day.

 

Aleena Naylor – Aleena is the presenter of the mid-morning show on Radio Derby running from 10am – 1pm daily. Aleena’s show is generally made up of outside broadcasts, celebrity interviews and expert advice on various topical themes.

 

Andy Potter – Celebrity interviews and music are the main elements of Andy Potter’s afternoon show on Radio Derby, which runs from 1pm-4pm daily.

 

Colin Bloomfield – Colin is Radio Derby’s equivalent of BBC Radio 1’s Scott Mills, presenting the drive time show from 4pm-6pm every day. This is the stations second most popular radio show as it also benefits from the captive audience of commuters travelling back from work. The Colin Bloomfield show, like Phil Trow’s Breakfast Show is a mix of music, travel, sport, news and weather.

 

Richard Spurr – Radio Derby’s evening show presenter Richard, entertains his listeners with special guests daily as well as phone-ins from members of the public to discuss topical subjects of the week.

 

Amanda Bowman – Amanda is the final presenter of the day on Radio Derby with her show running from 10pm to 1am.  The main features of the show involve phone-ins from the public to join in the discussion of the day.

 

Other Radio Derby Features

 

Radio Derby Sport – as well as the usual sport based features within the various Radio Derby shows, there is a slot between 6pm-7pm daily called Sport from 6, hosted by Colin Bloomfield all about sport. The hour gives particular attention to the lesser known sportsmen and women that would not normally hit the headlines.

You can also rely on Radio Derby for live commentary on the football and cricket from the area

 

Radio Derby Travel News – The BBC Derby website can give you all the local travel news for the Derby and Derbyshire area so that you can plan your journey and avoid any delays caused by road works or accidents on Derbyshire’s roads. If you are a budding journalist or you have aspirations to become the next local radio DJ then you may want to consider applying for jobs at Radio Derby. As with most jobs in media, unless you already have a proven track record or high profile the chances are you will have to start from the bottom and work your way up. As Radio Derby is a part of the BBC you will have to use the BBC website to search for jobs at Radio Derby rather than the usual ways of searching for jobs in Derby. There may be vacancies for various roles in Derby or you may be able to join a training scheme to help you secure a foot on the ladder. Directions to Radio Derby

 

Coming from the M1 – Get off at junction 25 and follow the A52 (Brian Clough Way) for 7 Miles then slip off at the A601 (St Alkamunds way) for 0.4 miles, then slip off left onto King Street (A6) for 0.1 mile. After 150 yards take a left onto St Helens Road to reach Radio Derby Studios.
